Solar panels on the roof, lessons on the screen: an off-grid school in Antipolo lights up

Libis Elementary School in Antipolo City, in the Philippines' Rizal province, runs on sunshine now. The One Meralco Foundation and B&M Global Services Manila have switched on a rooftop solar system at the off-grid school, bringing steady power to classrooms, computers and multimedia equipment for more than 200 students and teachers — power that no longer vanishes on a rainy day. Employees added gifts of their own: a television, a printer, a laptop and a speaker. It is the 309th off-grid public school the foundation's School Electrification Program has energised across the country.

The upbeat factor200 children whose classroom no longer goes dark when the grid does — the 309th school lit by one patient programme.
