Somalia hands its young people a formal seat in building peace

Somalia's Federal Government has launched a National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security for 2026–2030, giving young Somalis a formal role in peacebuilding, national security and decision-making. Unveiled in Mogadishu by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with support from UNDP, UNICEF and UNFPA, the five-year plan rests on four pillars: preventing conflict, reconciliation and peacebuilding, participation in decision-making, and creating educational and employment opportunities. Youth Minister Mohamed Abdulqadir said the aim is to enable young people to play an active role in promoting peace and stability — a notable bet, in a young country, on the generation that will inherit it.

The upbeat factorinstead of being talked about, Somalia's young people now have an official seat at the peace table.
