South Africa is putting another R150 million (about $9 million) behind one digital front door for government

MyMzansi is South Africa's plan for a single digital platform where citizens can prove who they are, exchange data securely and access government services in one place. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has allocated an additional R150 million (about $9 million) in the 2026/27 adjustments budget to keep building it. A working prototype of the national digital ID was demonstrated live earlier this month, its hosting infrastructure is due by March 2027, and the ID itself is planned as a credential in a mobile wallet in 2027/28 — public services designed around the citizen, built in-house.
