South Africa just opened a hub to make its own medicines

President Cyril Ramaphosa opened the CSIR's FuturePHARMA facility in Tshwane on October 7 — an open-access hub where researchers and companies can take drug ideas from the lab bench through to manufacturing. About 98% of the active ingredients in South Africa's locally made medicines are currently imported; the facility aims to close that gap, build skills, and strengthen pandemic preparedness across the continent.
