South Africa's investment deals promise 230,000 permanent jobs
The pledges made at South Africa's 6th Investment Conference back in March are turning into real paychecks. Commitments totaling R889.8 billion (about $54.2 billion) across 81 projects from 22 markets are tied to more than 230,000 permanent jobs, according to an October review. The lineup includes Toyota's R10.4 billion (about $633 million) investment in KwaZulu-Natal, Sasol's R60 billion (about $3.66 billion), and South32's R3.9 billion (about $237 million) for rail upgrades. The government is now targeting R3 trillion (about $182.7 billion) in investment commitments by 2030.
