South Africa's rhino numbers climb as poaching falls

South Africa counted a minimum of 15,096 rhinos at the end of 2025 — up 4.9% — while poaching losses in the first eight months of 2026 fell to 230 from 248 a year earlier. Kruger National Park recorded 114 losses, down year on year, as dehorning, rangers and monitoring bite.
