Sri Lanka's small farms get a digital upgrade, with farmers in the room

Sri Lanka has launched AgriConnect in Colombo, a World Bank Group initiative implemented with the Government of Sri Lanka and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to modernise the country's farming through digital tools. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya called it 'an important step towards transforming the country's agrifood sector into a more productive, resilient and competitive driver of economic growth,' aiming squarely at smallholder farmers — the people who grow most of the food. Agriculture Minister K.D. Lalkantha attended alongside farmer, fisheries and livestock representatives, so the plan starts with the people it is meant to serve at the table.

The upbeat factorsmall farms, smarter tools — and a transformation designed with farmers, not just for them.
