Steve and Terri, the beavers: two rescued kits get famous names and a second chance
One arrived as an orphan; the other was injured and could not go back to her family. Now the two young beavers are sharing a nursery at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek — and sharing two famous names, given in honour of Steve and Terri Irwin. The sanctuary runs a halfway house with the Beaver Trust: a 4-acre enclosure where rescued beavers recover, practise being beavers, and prepare for release into the wild as part of Britain's reintroduction programme. Steve and Terri are the 12th and 13th to pass through, after earlier care at Five Sisters Zoo. 'These kits have both had very different journeys into captive care,' said Dr Roisin Campbell-Palmer of the Beaver Trust. 'The move was made to pair them together for companionship… with the hope that, when they are ready, they will establish themselves in a suitable wild release project.'
