Students sit down with Oakland seniors — and the phones start making sense
Sylvia Chaney-Williamson kept leaving her transit card at home, so she came to Northeastern University's Oakland campus, where 18-year-old student Gabriella Nsubuga sat with her at a picnic table and moved the card onto her iPhone, fare money and all. They were one of dozens of pairings at Senior Technology Day, part of Oakland Tech Week, where university and high-school students helped older neighbours with email, storage and settings. The teachers included one of their own: Norman Weekes, 68, who runs AI-literacy sessions for fellow seniors so they can use new tools without being used by them.
The upbeat factortwo generations, one picnic table, and a bus card that will never be left at home again.
