Sunshine plus storage, around the clock: a 500-megawatt clean-power project takes shape in Karnataka
In Karnataka, a new clean-power project pairs 500 megawatts of solar and wind generation with 200 megawatt-hours of battery storage — a combination designed to keep electricity flowing after sunset and on calm days, not just at noon. Japan's Sumitomo Corporation has agreed to take a 49% stake alongside India's Hero Future Energies, with most of the power sold under a 25-year agreement and operations planned from March 2027. It is the unglamorous recipe grids actually need: sun, wind and a battery, working as one.
