Tanzania's farm-to-market fixer raises $40 million to reach 100,000 farmers
East Africa Foods has raised $40 million — a $26 million Series B equity round led by PIDG's InfraCo with FMO and Oikocredit, plus debt from the Schmidt Family Foundation — to expand its food-supply infrastructure into Kenya. The Tanzanian company buys directly from more than 28,000 smallholder farmers and supplies over 10,000 urban retailers with a fleet of 100-plus trucks, and says it has cut food losses across its network by a third. The new capital funds more collection centers, processing facilities, and cold-chain trucks, targeting 100,000 farmers over the next few years — 45% of them women — plus expanded climate-smart farming training.
The upbeat factorHope: less food rotting between farm and market — more money in farmers' pockets.
