Ten African circular-economy builders reach the $2 million Milken-Motsepe semifinal

Ten companies have been named semifinalists for the $2 million Milken-Motsepe Prize in Circular Economy, which backs African businesses that keep materials in use instead of in landfills. Kenya's Bottle Logistics East Africa pairs digital tracking with glass-recovery plants to return discarded glass to production; Nigeria's Cold Hubs runs fully solar-powered cold rooms that stretch fresh produce's shelf life from 2 days to 21; and the field spans Tanzanian recycled steel, Ethiopian plastic-to-products manufacturing and more. Five finalists will be chosen next, with a $1 million grand prize awarded at the 2027 Milken Institute Global Conference.

The upbeat factoryesterday's bottles, kept cold rooms and scrap steel — rebuilt as African businesses, not waste.
