Ten Latin American projects just won green prizes — from 2,087 hopefuls

In Cuenca, Ecuador, ten teams went home as winners of the 11th Premios Verdes, chosen from 2,087 entries across 29 countries and 613 cities. Colombia's BIO CO took the agriculture prize with regenerative farming across 39 species that reuses 95% of its waste and provides 60 formal jobs. Peru's AQUARESTAURA won for freshwater: it restores ancestral Andean water systems around Lima, has rehabilitated 79 kilometres (about 49 miles) of traditional canals, and reports recharging 13 million cubic metres of groundwater a year. Winners also came from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Chile, tackling biodiversity loss, pollution and the energy transition. President Gustavo Manrique's hope for them is simple: visibility that turns into collaboration, knowledge-sharing and funding.

The upbeat factorancestral canals in Peru and regenerative farms in Colombia beat 2,077 other ideas — local wisdom, prize-winning at last.
