Ten nations just charted 40 more years of ocean protection in the Western Indian Ocean

The 12th Conference of the Parties to the Nairobi Convention closed in Dar es Salaam with 15 decisions to speed up protection and sustainable development of the Western Indian Ocean, under the theme ‘Towards a Sustainable Blue Economy.’ Ten contracting parties — from Comoros to South Africa — joined UN agencies, scientists, youth, and coastal communities to mark the convention’s 40th anniversary.
