Texas gets a bigger battery: a giant storage site doubles to 300 MW
Texas runs on sunshine at noon and air conditioners at dusk, and the gap between the two is where big batteries earn their keep. Nightpeak Energy's Bocanova storage site in Brazoria County, in southeast Texas, has now doubled in size: a second phase of 150 megawatts / 300 megawatt-hours, built with Tesla Megapack units, has reached commercial operation alongside the first phase, which started in August 2025. Together they give the site 300 megawatts / 600 megawatt-hours — power that can be stored when the grid has plenty and released on the ERCOT grid when demand spikes and Texans need it most.
The upbeat factorsunshine gathered at noon can now keep Texas evenings running — 600 megawatt-hours of it.
