The California sanctuary where disabled dogs race to the park — wheelchairs, prosthetics and all

In Temecula, former film-dog trainer Debbie Pearl runs the Unstoppable Ranch, a sanctuary for disabled dogs — a pack of 17 survivors of abuse, neglect and abandonment, many in wheelchairs or prosthetics, living inside the house, sleeping on the bed, racing each other to the park every day. Newest rescue Birdie arrived unable to take a step and now runs with the pack. The dogs also visit schools, hospitals, rehab centers and senior communities; the ranch launched a $100,000 GoFundMe to expand.

The upbeat factorJoy — scars treated as badges of honour: joy as a form of rescue.
