The dinosaur in the drawer: a new species waited a century to be noticed
A fossil skull fragment collected on the Isle of Wight and kept at the Natural History Museum since 1924 has turned out to be a dinosaur nobody had named: Invictibellatrix amberina, a long-clawed predator about the size of a large tiger that lived 120 million years ago. The UCL-led team says it is the first of its megaraptoran group — cousins of the tyrannosaurs — ever found in Europe.
The upbeat factormuseums are time machines with drawers — and one just opened onto a brand-new dinosaur.
