The first gene therapy for inherited deafness was approved

Some children are born deaf because a single gene, otoferlin, can't deliver the instructions their inner ear needs to turn sound into signals. The FDA approved Otarmeni, a one-time treatment that delivers a working copy of the gene — the first gene therapy ever cleared for hearing loss.
