Climate finance usually arrives in drips. At its 46th board meeting, the Green Climate Fund — the world's largest dedicated climate fund — approved $1.9 billion at once, its biggest single-meeting total, taking its 2026 approvals to $3.2 billion. Twenty-one new projects were approved and 16 new partners accredited, growing a portfolio of 379 projects worth $22.3 billion in fund money — $87.3 billion (about $87 billion) counting co-financing — across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond. The board also reappointed executive director Mafalda Duarte for a second term to steer the next programming period.
The upbeat factorthe largest single decision in the fund's history, aimed at the countries with the least cushion against a changing climate.
