The humble bin just won a national design award — for making reuse irresistible
Saxon Wright's insight was simple: people will reuse cups if returning them is as easy as grabbing one. His company Huskee's 'Smart Bin, Borrow' — an internet-connected return point with QR-code access that takes back reusable cups and containers — has just won a 2026 Australian Good Design Award for product design. Designed in Australia with local studios, the bin tackles the hardest part of the reuse puzzle: getting containers back into circulation instead of the trash. The independent jury of 100-plus design experts praised it as systems-level thinking that removes the friction from doing the right thing.
The upbeat factorHope — design that makes doing the right thing the easy thing.
