The reef that learned to breed again — 300 coral frames and counting

Around Vommuli Island, marine biologist Hazel Araujo's team has installed 300 coral frames holding 16,800 fragments across 13 species — and this season, something extraordinary happened. Colonies grown on the very first frames released their gametes in the resort's first recorded coral spawning event, proof the cultivated reef has reached full reproductive maturity. Despite the 2024 global bleaching event, survival held at 91%, and sharks, rays, octopus and sea turtles are returning to the restored habitat.
