The suspected second Ebola case in Kenya tests negative

Kenya is breathing easier: preliminary lab results on a 20-year-old patient in Wajir County who was feared to be the country's second Ebola case came back negative, the county governor said on Thursday. The scare followed the death on Tuesday of Kenya's first-ever recorded Ebola patient, a traveler from the Democratic Republic of Congo who passed through Uganda en route to Nairobi. Health workers had been tracing his contacts — 28 direct contacts plus 23 passengers and crew. Kenya is the fourth country to record a case tied to the Congo outbreak; for now, the count holds at one, and the second feared case is ruled out.

The upbeat factorGratitude: one patient lost, but the second alarm turns out to be a false one.
