The taps are back: clean water flows again for 500 neighbours in Tonji

For two months, the people of Tonji in Wulu County fetched water from unsafe sources after their borehole broke down — the next working one was about 20 kilometres (about 12 miles) away. Now the pump is fixed. The Network for Emergency and Global Rescue Organization, a local aid group, repaired the borehole with support from Generation Without Borders, a partner organisation in Vietnam, and clean water is flowing again for more than 500 people. The same water point serves Tonji Primary School and its pupils, and a nearby health clinic. A community water committee is being set up to look after the pump, and residents are already talking about the small vegetable gardens that reliable water could make possible.

The upbeat factorone repaired pump now serves a whole community — its school, its clinic and 500 neighbours.
