Three bronze bison now stand guard at the Smithsonian
Three larger-than-life bronze bison — a bull, a cow, and a calf — took up permanent display outside the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for America's 250th birthday. Millions of bison once roamed the plains; fewer than 1,000 remained by 1900, and now the herds are back. The statues honor what the sculptor called 'a wonderful story of conservation working.'
