Three categories, one spotlight: Latin America's women chemists take their awards in Lima
In Lima this week, chemistry's Latin American community put its women centre stage. The American Chemical Society and the Latin American Federation of Chemical Associations named the 2026 Latin American Women in Chemistry Award winners during the region's big chemistry congress in the Peruvian capital — honouring emerging leaders under 45, leaders in industry and leaders in academia. Their research reaches from more-sustainable aquaculture biomass to autoimmune diseases and how human blood clots. Each winner receives $2,000, a year's ACS membership, access to the CAS SciFinder research database and a free institute course — tools meant to compound, so the recognition keeps working long after the ceremony ends. The awards, running since 2021, exist for a simple reason: outstanding research deserves to be seen, and seeing it changes who imagines themselves doing it next.
