Three Latin American teams win development awards — for ferries, forests and solar 4G

The IDB Group's 2026 Superheroes of Development awards went to Costa Rica, Colombia and Bolivia. Costa Rica upgraded the Paquera Port Ferry Terminal in Puntarenas, connecting the Nicoya Peninsula with zero service disruption; Tigo Colombia's solar-powered 4G reached 1,405 previously unconnected rural communities by 2025, benefiting more than 6 million people; and Bolivia's Pando Verde açaí project with Conservación Amazónica grew production from 10.5 metric tons in 2022 to more than 300 metric tons in 2024–2026, strengthening 1,100-plus producers with organic certification opening higher-value markets.
