Three tiny monkeys got the shot that could save their whole species
In Brazil's Atlantic Forest, two male and one female black-faced lion tamarin became the first of their kind ever vaccinated against yellow fever. Fewer than 400 of these golden primates survive in the wild — scientists only described the species in 1990 — and yellow fever has wiped out other monkey populations before. Local researchers also work with schools on Superagui Island, where residents are turning the tamarin into a shared symbol of pride.
