Treating hepatitis C during pregnancy proves safe — and clears the virus
At WashU Medicine in St. Louis, Laura Marks and Madeline McCrary followed 14 pregnant patients treated for hepatitis C with a standard antiviral course. Every one of the 10 who completed treatment had cleared the virus by delivery, with no safety concerns for mothers or babies. Published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, it is the first real-world evidence of its kind — opening a door that has been closed to pregnant patients until now.
The upbeat factora cure once withheld in pregnancy just proved itself for mothers and babies alike.
