Two giant generators just docked in Banjul — and the lights are coming back

Since June, rolling blackouts have swept the Greater Banjul area, shuttering shops and sending frustrated residents into the streets. On Monday, relief arrived at the port: two brand-new generators, 10.5 megawatts each, bought to steady the tiny West African nation's grid. They will be installed at the Brikama power station by month's end — and they are only the start. Another 24 megawatts are on the way, a 50-megawatt solar plant is under contract, and the government has pledged electricity for every Gambian community by the end of 2026.

The upbeat factorhope — the dark months are ending.
