Two hours, one million meals: Milwaukee neighbors are signing up to pack food for families

Milwaukee-area residents are being invited to give two hours on Thursday, Nov. 5, to help pack one million meals for families struggling to afford food. At the Wisconsin State Fair Park Exposition Center in West Allis, volunteers will work in three two-hour shifts packing nutritious meals that three regional food banks — Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and the Northern Illinois Food Bank — will collect and hand out. The push comes as Feeding America puts Wisconsin's food insecurity rate at 13.5% — about one in seven people. No experience is needed, and the first 2,000 volunteers get a free T-shirt.

The upbeat factora million meals start with ordinary neighbors giving up a single evening.
