Two Houston cancer pioneers are elected to the National Academy of Medicine

Election to the National Academy of Medicine is one of the highest honours in American health science — members are chosen by their peers. This week it went to two researchers at Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Center: Dr Albert Koong, recognised for transforming radiation therapy for pancreatic and liver cancers and finding new treatment targets, and Dr Katy Rezvani, honoured for pioneering cancer therapies built from natural killer cells — immune cells trained to hunt cancer — and for designing ways to manufacture those therapies at scale so more patients can reach them. Between them, their work has already changed how some of the hardest cancers are treated.

The upbeat factorpeer-voted recognition for two people whose life's work is making hard cancers more treatable.
