Two vaccine parts protect better together against Zika, in mice
In a peer-reviewed study in the journal Vaccines, researchers built an mRNA vaccine for Zika from two parts — one targeting the virus's coat, one a second viral protein — and found the pair together protected mice completely in challenge tests, far better than either part alone, with a strong immune response. It is mouse-stage work, but it gives vaccine designers a concrete new recipe for a virus that still has no licensed vaccine.
The upbeat factorteamwork works for vaccines too — two modest parts, one complete protection.
