Uganda Airlines touches down in Accra, stitching East and West Africa closer
The inaugural Uganda Airlines flight landed at Accra International Airport on Tuesday, launching a four-times-weekly service linking Entebbe in Uganda, Lagos in Nigeria and Accra in Ghana. Ghana's Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe welcomed the route as a boost for the country's aviation sector, and Ghana Airports chief Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare called it 'a significant milestone in the growing relationship between the two countries' — one expected to expand travel options, stimulate tourism and culture, and make trade between East and West Africa easier. Uganda Airlines chief executive Girma Wake said the service will make journeys between the two regions more accessible. The Uganda Tourism Board is already in Accra, meeting Ghanaian travel agents to turn the new connection into visitors, bookings and investment.
