Uganda's fertiliser, made at home: Aga Khan network plans a green hydrogen venture

The Aga Khan Development Network has told Uganda's Parliament it plans to invest in green hydrogen production in the country — hydrogen made with renewable power — with a practical goal: producing fertiliser locally so Ugandan farmers depend less on imports and face lower costs. Diplomatic Representative Amin Mawji shared the plans during a visit to Speaker Jacob Oboth on 15 October and said the network is discussing support with the energy and finance ministries. No site, cost or timeline has been set yet; the same network is already building two pharmaceutical facilities and a university hospital in Uganda.

The upbeat factora harvest's most expensive input, made where the harvest grows — that is the plan now on the table.
