Underwater umbrellas give corals a fighting chance

With the planet in its fourth global coral bleaching event, Florida scientists tried something beautifully simple: shade. In a trial in the Caribbean, corals sheltered by 'underwater umbrellas' bleached less, and some regained their color. It won't save every reef — but for nurseries and the most precious corals, a little shade buys time.
