US$8.5 million in UN emergency funds will reach more than 202,700 people in northern Ethiopia
The United Nations has allocated US$8.5 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund to support more than 202,700 people across Ethiopia's Tigray, Amhara, Afar and Benishangul-Gumuz regions. The money backs the essentials that keep communities going — clean water and sanitation, shelter, health care and nutrition — in places where services have been disrupted and local response capacity is thin. The allocation, announced by UN emergency chief Tom Fletcher, brings the fund's total support to Ethiopia in 2026 to more than $22.5 million.
The upbeat factoremergency money that moves in days, not budget cycles — aimed exactly where services have run thinnest.
