Vietnam's VinFast posts an 85.5% jump in quarterly revenue as Asia switches to electric

Vietnamese electric-vehicle maker VinFast reported on Monday that its second-quarter revenue rose 85.5% from a year earlier, to 30.3 trillion dong (about $1.17 billion), driven by strong demand at home and growing sales in India, Indonesia and the Philippines. VinFast has now led Vietnam's overall car market for 22 straight months, and ranks first among electric brands in the Philippines. Behind the numbers is a plain shift: hundreds of thousands of drivers in some of the world's fastest-growing economies are choosing electric cars and two-wheelers, and a homegrown Asian manufacturer is the one selling them.

The upbeat factorAsia's electric switch is being powered by an Asian maker — and sales are surging, not inching.
