Waiting in museum drawers for a century: 46 wasp species Switzerland never knew it had

In the drawers of natural history museums in Basel, Bern and Lausanne, researchers worked through 1,046 pinned wasp specimens — many collected between 1880 and 1970 — and found 46 species never before recorded in Switzerland, plus one entirely new to science. The country's known list for this wasp group jumps from just 6 to 53 species, and all the specimen data is now openly available for anyone to study.

The upbeat factorsome discoveries need no expedition — they were waiting patiently in a drawer all along.
