Western Australians raise a record A$101 million (about $66 million) for children in one weekend

Perth's Channel 7 Telethon has been running since 1968, and this weekend Western Australians outdid themselves: the 59th Telethon raised a record A$101,277,705 (about $66 million) over 26 hours, taking the all-time total past A$879 million (about $571 million) for medical research, equipment and services for children living with illness, disability and disadvantage. Schools, businesses and families fundraised all year; the Telethon Ball alone brought in A$25 million (about $16 million), and 147 organisations were supported in 2026. It is less a broadcast than a whole state deciding, together, to show up for its kids.

The upbeat factoran entire state spent a weekend proving generosity is still a team sport.
