What do older people actually want from a smart home? Someone finally sorted it properly

Smart-home gadgets for older adults are usually designed by the young. A study published in Frontiers in Public Health took a more respectful route: it asked older people, their families and care professionals what a home-care platform must do, and sorted the answers by how each feature truly matters. Safety, privacy and transparency form the non-negotiable floor for some groups; health monitoring and emergency dispatch matter broadly; entertainment and personalisation depend on the person. The authors are frank about the gaps — affordability wasn't measured — but the map they drew is the one designers should have started with: ask first, build second.
