WHO is putting about $7 million behind a simple goal: add life to longer lives in the Pacific

People across the Western Pacific are living longer — but too many of those extra years are spent in illness. The World Health Organization's regional office and the Institute of Philanthropy have launched a four-year, about $7 million partnership, announced in Manila on October 22 alongside health ministers from across the region, to close that ten-year gap between lifespan and healthy lifespan. Working with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the initiative will build community-rooted models of elder care — shifting the focus from late hospital treatment to keeping older people healthy, active and independent at home.
