WHO renews its promise: free, quality cancer medicines for Pakistan's children

More than 8,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in Pakistan every year, and survival today sits near 30% — a figure shaped less by medicine than by whether hospitals can reliably stock it. The World Health Organization has renewed its support for Pakistan under the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines, pairing free, quality-assured medicines with hospital-readiness work: four hospitals are preparing to receive supplies between late 2026 and early 2027, with technical guidance for seven more through 2027. The platform's goal is stark and hopeful: lift childhood cancer survival to 60% by 2030.

The upbeat factorsurvival doubling is the target — and the plan is the unglamorous, lifesaving kind: stocked shelves, ready hospitals.
