Women Are Bringing Mexico City's Ancient Floating Farms Back to Life
In Xochimilco's thousand-year-old floating gardens, women farmers are reclaiming abandoned plots and growing food without chemical fertilizers, using canal mud the way their ancestors did. Sixteen growers have earned the university-backed 'Etiqueta Chinampera' sustainability tag — four of them women — which also protects the canals where the nearly extinct axolotl salamander still survives.
