Young lifeguards at Big Bay spot a freezing baby penguin — and get it to safety

Lifeguards on duty at Big Bay beach near Cape Town spotted a juvenile African penguin that was cold and malnourished, and called in SANCCOB, the seabird rescue organisation, which took the bird into rehabilitation care. African penguins are critically endangered, so every young bird counts. Thanks to the lifeguards' sharp eyes, this one now has a real chance of returning to the wild.

The upbeat factorthe people watching over swimmers were watching over everyone — even the ones that waddle.
