1,500 riders, 300 bikes, one world record — all for the strangers waiting for a transplant
More than 1,500 people took turns on about 300 stationary bikes at Luxembourg's Luxexpo centre on Sunday, riding in relay for eight hours to promote organ donation. Together they covered 44,614 kilometres — further than a lap of the Earth — smashing past the 15,000-kilometre mark a Guinness adjudicator on site required for the world record. The ride, organised by Luxembourg Transplant ahead of World Organ Donation Day, carried a simple message: about 100 people in Luxembourg are waiting for a transplant right now.
The upbeat factor1,500 strangers pedalled around the planet so someone else gets a second chance.
