105 grams of mystery: the tiny pine marten nobody at the wildlife hospital had ever seen

In 42 years of mending Britain's wildlife, the team at Vale Wildlife Hospital in Evesham had never admitted a pine marten — until a two-week-old baby arrived from Powys, weighing just 105 grams, about as much as a small apple. Keeper Laura Pawley has been hand-rearing the tiny creature, one of the rarest native mammals in the country, and tells BBC Hereford & Worcester the youngster is doing well. The plan is patient: care through the summer, then release back into its natural habitat in Wales, none the wiser that it was, briefly, a record-breaker.

The upbeat factor105 grams, 42 years in the making — the smallest first in the hospital's history, thriving on tiny feeds.
