12,110 cartons, collected one lunchbox at a time: a Lahore girls' school turns recycling into furniture
Students at Crescent Model Girls High School in Lahore, Pakistan collected 173 kilograms of used drinks cartons — about 12,110 cartons — to win the Central Region title in a recycling project run by Tetra Pak Pakistan and WWF-Pakistan. Their prize closes the loop beautifully: furniture made from recycled cartons, inaugurated at the school on October 29. The project, running since 2017, has held 79 awareness sessions across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and other cities, and this year 47 schools took part in the collection competition. At the ceremony, senior students performed a mime about saving water. 'Today's students are not just the leaders of tomorrow,' the organisers said. 'They are also the change makers of today.'
