129 countries, one reminder: Mexico joins the global week for reporting medicine side effects

Most suspected side effects of medicines never get reported — worldwide, fewer than 10% reach regulators — and unreported means unlearned. From 2 to 8 November, Mexico's health regulator COFEPRIS is taking part in #MedSafetyWeek 2026, a campaign coordinated by the Uppsala Monitoring Centre across 129 countries, under the local slogan 'Adverse events: do not ignore them, report them.' Hospitals, pharmacies, companies and patients are all being asked to file the reports that let regulators spot problems early. Mexico's own system is substantial: its national pharmacovigilance centre received 82,993 notifications in 2025. The push comes as COFEPRIS speeds up drug approvals through reliance on trusted partners' reviews — making the safety net that catches problems after approval more important, not less.

The upbeat factora safer medicine is often just a reported one — 129 countries asking patients to speak up, in the same week.
