2,087 entries, ten winners: Latin America's green prizes honour water, forests and regenerative farms

In Cuenca, Ecuador, the 11th Premios Verdes gala named ten winning projects from Colombia, Peru, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Chile — chosen from 2,087 entries across 29 countries. Colombia's BIO CO won for regenerative farming that uses 95% of its waste and provides 60 formal jobs. Peru's AQUARESTAURA won for restoring ancestral Andean water systems around Lima: 79 kilometres of traditional canals rehabilitated, recharging about 13 million cubic metres of groundwater a year. 'Behind every project are people who are changing lives in their communities,' said co-founder Gustavo Manrique — the prizes exist to win those people visibility, collaborators and funding.

The upbeat factorancient canals and regenerative farms, judged the continent's best ideas — and now harder to ignore.
