2,734,800 vaccine doses land in Libreville — and a catch-up plan for every child who missed out

At the immunisation centre in Nkembo, Libreville, Gabon's Minister of Health, Professor Elsa Nkana Joséphine Ayo épouse Bivigou, took delivery of 2,734,800 vaccine doses on 17 October, handed over by Rokya Ye-Dieng, the UN Development Programme's representative in Gabon, with the World Health Organization and Japan's JICA agency alongside. The supply, delivered through UNDP's urgent community development programme, feeds Gabon's national push against vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles. Its purpose is catch-up: finding the children — especially in remote areas — whose vaccinations were missed, and making sure protection reaches them before an outbreak does the finding instead.

The upbeat factor2.7 million chances for a child to be protected from diseases we already know how to prevent.
